Journey Yoga, Fitness & Wellness Center opened to the public on Monday 7/20, while strictly adhering to the new Covid-19 specific state guidelines. Journey is unique in that it is a wellness center dedicated to offering a variety of not only yoga and fitness classes, but wellness services and community classes for senior citizens partnering with local nursing homes.
Located at 316 Huttleston Avenue in Fairhaven, the center is bright and newly renovated, overlooking a beautiful grove of walnut trees. It is also fully handicap accessible. Indoor, outdoor and virtual classes will be available.
Journey is owned and operated by Cheryl Alphonse who has been in the physical therapy industry for over 28 years, starting in orthopedic and specializing in Geriatrics.
“My vision has always been on a path of health, wellness, prevention and overall sense of well being. Seeing the whole concept of the journey and its imperfections. Forgiving yourself when your path leads you astray. Accepting that your journey may have led you elsewhere. There is such a strength in self forgiveness and in finding a way back with an outcome of self discovery.”
Welcome to Journey, Because it is!
Initial offerings will include classic Vinyasa Yoga, Power Yoga as well as some unique classes outlined below:
• Yogalates: a hybrid yoga and pilates class focusing on stretching and strengthening, enhancing slenderness rather than bulk.
• Yin Yoga: a meditative type of yoga. Poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.
• Age Reversing Stretch: aimed at actively slowing down and even reversing the aging process through gentle exercise that develops strong, flexible muscles.
• Kripalu Yoga is the yoga of compassion, a Hatha practice that focuses on slow movements and sustaining poses for a meditative practice that increases awareness of the body, mind, and breath.
Classes and services are available now and can be reserved on Mindbody online (https://mindbody.io/locations/journey-yoga-fitness-and-wellness).
